Both November Board meetings will be on a Wednesday. The first November meeting is already scheduled for November 2, due to November 1 being Election night. Dr. McCabe proposed moving the second November meeting to November 16, since the 2nd November meeting will be the Board organizational meeting and the county may take up to 15 days to certify election results. Moving the 2nd meeting from November 15 to November 16 will be added as a Consensus Item at the September 20 Board meeting.

Ms. Peg LaPlante recently testified in front of the State Interim Finance Committee, talking about costs to fund Special Education, including out-of-district placements. |
Middle School Basketball
Dr. McCabe explained that the original Middle School Basketball proposal came in last Spring with a projected cost of about $30,000. The District cannot afford to implement the proposed program at this time, but continues to look at alternative ways to make the program work. Currently, Middle School Basketball has been offered through the Englewood Recreation Center, using school facilities. The main problem is the inexperience of the coaching staff. The Middle School program could become a better feeder program for High School Basketball if coaching for the Middle School program was stronger. The Board agreed to have District personnel continue looking at program alternatives.
August Financial Reports
Ms. LaPlante presented the August Financial Reports and reported that current expenditures seem to be on target. The Board will need to readopt the budget at the October 4 Board meeting. There will be changes due to known salaries now that most hiring has been done and there may be a need to increase transportation costs. There was some discussion about Dr. McCabe's earlier comments on large class sizes. The Board approved allocating funds to hire an FTE to help alleviate class size issues.
Artificial Turf Update
Mr. Gramstorff explained that the field portion of the new artificial turf at EHS is available for games. The first football game was played at home as scheduled. There is additional work that needs to be done outside the end zone areas. The entire field should be complete within the next 30 to 45 days. Board members agreed that the field looked great and said they heard many positive things about the new turf from those in attendance at the game.
Consensus Items
The Board approved the following consensus items:
a. Personnel Recommendations & Addendum
b. Title X McKinney-Vento Appropriation
